Zimbabwe is in the throes of economic crisis with annual inflation officially at over 100,000 percent. There is a chronic shortage of basic goods and the majority of the population live below the poverty threshold. Zimbabweans queue outside a bank due to the ongoing cash crisis, 31 December 2007 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's central bank chief indefinitely extended a deadline Monday to exchange 200,000-dollar bills just hours before they were to cease being legal tender after scenes of chaos at banks across the country. 1. If you think that the current economic crisis is something that has never happened in history before, you may be wrong! After the collapse of the agriculture sector in Zimbabwe in 2000, the inflation in that country skyrocketed to 231 million percent a year! Just think about it – 231 000 000%! Unemployment went up to 80% and a third of country’s population left it.
